As a result of their collective plan for the Ymere NAI Ideas Competition 2009, architectural offices Elastik and Mat Studio have been assigned to further develop their concept of the Kop of the Grasweg at the river IJ in North Amsterdam. With their plan Open Frame the offices won one of the two jury prizes. The other prize was awarded to Stereo Architects, Finbarr McComb and Piet Sprangers who entered plan New York Five. The winning designs, together with the other 98 entries, will be on display at the exhibition ‘Open Fort 400’ in information centre De Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam from 18 December until 27 February 2010 .
Open Fort 400
This year the focus of the competition, organized by the NAI, Ymere and the city of Amsterdam , is North Amsterdam . Source of inspiration: the 400-year Amsterdam and New York relations. Designers were asked to create an Open Fort, from where the area can be further developed, similar to Fort Amsterdam 400 years ago in the current city of New York .
Opening
The opening of the exhibition on 18 December at 17.00 in the Zuiderkerk will also involve a discussion about the further development of North Amsterdam and the method in which a competition can contribute to this. At the exhibition Open Fort 400 all entries of the Ymere NAI Ideas Competitions 2009 will be on display. For more information please visit www.zuiderkerk.amsterdam.nl.
Publication
At the exhibition, the publication of Waterfront Visions/Visies will be presented, a book released by NAI Publishers.
