As a result of their collective plan for the Ymere NAI Ideas Competition 2009, architectural offices Elastik and Mat Studio have been assigned to further develop their concept of the Kop of the Grasweg at the river IJ in North Amsterdam. With their plan Open Frame the offices won one of the two jury prizes. The other prize was awarded to Stereo Architects, Finbarr McComb and Piet Sprangers who entered plan New York Five. The winning designs, together with the other 98 entries, will be on display at the exhibition ‘Open Fort 400’ in information centre De Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam from 18 December until 27 February 2010 .

On November 27th, the two winners of the Ymere NAi Ideas Competition 2009 ‘ Open Fort 400’ were announced. From the nominated five designs, the jury has chosen ‘Open Frame’ (Elastik and Mat Studio, Igor Kebel and Eriko Watanabe, Mika Cimolini and Freek Dech) and ‘ New York 5’ (Stereo Architects, Finbarr McComb and Pieter Sprangers) as winners. Both will be rewarded with a € 12.500 price. The winning plans will be on display at the exhibition ‘Open Fort 400’, in information centre De Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam from 18 December until 27 February 2010 , together with the other 100 entries.

The five plans which have been nominated by the jury of the Ymere NAI idea competition 2009, are announced in New York. This year’s competition, ‘Open Fort 400’ , which is jointly organised by the Ymere Housing Corporation and the NAI in close collaboration with the Amsterdam Local Authority, asked designers to think about an open fort as the impulse for the further social, cultural and economic development of the area from the end of the Grasweg to the River IJ in North Amsterdam.

On September 13th the five nominees of the Ymere NAI idea competition 2009 ‘Open Fort 400’ will be announced in New York. For the competition 100 entries from 28 countries submitted, of which only five nominees will go on to the closed second round of the competition.

Housing Corporation Ymere and the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAi) are organizing the second edition of the Ymere NAi Open Ideas Competition, this year entitled Open Fort 400. This edition is an open call for ideas/designs for a building and public domain on the North-West banks of the Amsterdam IJ. Ymere, the NAi and the City of Amsterdam invite architects, designers, landscape architects and other cultural practioners to take part in the competition by registering and sending in their ideas. The deadline for all entries is August 12th 2009.
